SFER members in Richmond, California played a role in increasing funding for socio-emotional and college support services including restorative justice training & elimination of willful defiance suspension.
Mental Health Training
SFER Denver members actively pushed Denver Public Schools’ administrators to allocate $1 million dollars to train schools and staff administrators to notice signs of trauma in students.
College Readiness
SFER Los Angeles' campaign demands that LAUSD align high school graduation rates with college entry standards to prepare all students for college. Currently fewer than 25% of LAUSD graduates are completing a Bachelor's Degree within 6 years.
Literacy Gap
St. Paul Public Schools revised their strategic plan to reflect SFER Twin Cities' demand to decrease the racial literacy gap. One of their actions delivered 800 signatures from their petition to the board on this campaign.
Credit Recovery
SFER North Carolina is asking for accountability measures for credit recovery programs for quality of education & stricter use of credit recovery programs. Student chances of admittance into a 4-year college are dramatically reduced after participating in a credit recovery program.
Superintendent Search
SFER Boston is demanding an inclusive selection process for the next permanent superintendent. The superintendent has a critical role as the district leader serving almost 55,000 students.
We Dream. We ACT!
In North Carolina this last June, we partnered with Adelante Education Coalition to host an Undocugraduation, a ceremony celebrating undocumented students' graduation, to remind legislators of the need for a law that allows undocumented youth to pay tuition as residents in state universities. SFER North Carolina is leading a campaign for tuition equity that would give in state tuition to undocumented North Carolinians. This action came from the heels from a trip to D.C. to rally with United We Dream for a federal Clean Dream Act.
